If one can stomach the endless bile and drivel of the latest blog promoting the extremist right (wrong) in Sri Lanka, there is a wonderful example of someone throwing a stupid party and the A-list attending in force... perfect for those who study lowest common denominator propaganda.
I speak to you of the Sri Lanka Defence Forum, the latest and greatest repository of lunatic fringe viewpoints on Sri Lankan politics.
Built on the tepid ashes of DefenceWire it has, in very short order, leaped to the front of the battle for tired and untried minds married to the flimsy tales of the craziest of racial formalists on the Tear-drop Island.
For a trip down a lane of silly conspiracies, illogical suppositions and just plain dumb-ass racist apologies this is the place to go but be warned... anyone who disagrees with the pugilistic pundits and pedants there will undoubtedly be threatened with a white van visit and or added to the list of "scummies" who have betrayed the country and should be punished as traitors.
If it weren't such a sad and real slice of chauvinistic hatred it would almost be funny given the artless and puerile attempts at propaganda that litter its floors of ignorance.

Meanwhile, the folks at the Sunday Leader continue to refuse my posts on their discussion pages. I am not sure why and perhaps my latest will finally get approved but in the likelihood it won't I offer it here.
This was in reply to an article regarding 13.5 million dubious SMS messages from MR on January 1st.
(Comment awaiting moderation... as usual)
MR finds himself in a difficult position of his own doing and in trying to make the best of a bad decision (calling an election well ahead of schedule) has helped show the world what a difficult situation Sri Lanka finds itself in.
Between himself and SF it is obvious that the next President is going to be one with a murky financial past, a possible war-crimes indictment waiting for them as well as some inescapable complicity in any number of nefarious activities ranging from white van episodes to cover-ups in judicial investigations.
Neither of these men have hands clean enough to slaughter chickens, let alone hold anything close to a torch of democracy, but they remain the only politically viable choices.
As the lesser of two evils SF represents corruption on a smaller scale but only because MR and his family have turned out to be massively insensitive to any and all laws and have firmly entrenched themselves in private and Government business... good luck trying to clean up a clan like that.
This foolishly called election, as well as the ensuing and immensely indiscreet personal attacks between former allies, is going to result in a race where nobody wins. The real question is how to contain the losses and those losses will be both monetary as well as loss of face on the world stage.
Whoever wins is going to be answering for a number of war actions on and off the battlefield in addition to trying to avoid corruption charges and all the while having to follow-up charges made against their vanquished opponent.
If SF looses and faces corruption and treason charges does anyone think he will go gently into the night? If SF wins he faces the daunting prospect of dismantling the Rajapaksa "family business/government racket" and surely MR is not going to take that lightly.
How could SF not send MR and his family through an extensive investigation after all he and his side have promised in terms of dealing with corruption? How can a victorious MR not send SF to the dock for the many criminal acts he and his cronies have claimed of SF?
Sri Lanka does not need some dark and mysterious international conspiracy to cause it great hardship... its wounds are self-inflicted by men whose egos and greed are purely home-grown and without personal or national boundaries.
That MR would use any means possible to ensure victory should come as no surprise to anyone be it legal or otherwise and one need only look at the way he and his government conducted their war on journalists and the war against the terrorists.
At a time when the country needs leaders who understand and can deal in compromise we are about to see everything wrong with being forced to elect unworthy men in an unnecessary election during an ill-chosen time.
All of this falls onto the shoulders of MR who deserves to lose the election if only for being so stupid to call it in the first place.
